Fried Green Tomatoes isn't a dish usually made in the UK. My son introduced me to it and it is delicious. Here's a link to the traditional Southern US way of cooking them - but they are just as delicious fried 'plain' - as the recipe below.
As well as a Green Tomato Chutney,(recipe to come), it's also a good way of using up what's left at the end of the growing season.

Ingredients:
green tomatoes
Sugar - to taste
Salt and black pepper
mix of Oil and Butter
little Balsamic Vinegar
1. Remove the stems from the tomatoes and cut them into nice chunks or quarter them - depending on the size. Don't peel them.
2. Add them to the melted and slightly sizzling fat in your pan. Fry over for a few minutes until slightly softened - or very soft if you prefer. Throw in some sugar and seasoning to taste.
..... You could also add a little balsamic vinegar if you fancy and maybe a bit of Maple Syrup.
Done!
